April Fools: Day 30

Filed under: April Fools 2007 — sonya @ 9:36 pm

I did not make it as far as I had hoped I would. Nevertheless I have completed the first round of editing all the same. True, I still have to create a file called Second Draft with all the changes. But I have come this far, it would be stupid to drop the novel now.

I didn’t reach my self-imposed goal. I am glad with the progress I made this month, though.

April Fools: Day 29

Filed under: April Fools 2007, NaNoWriMo, Rewriting — sonya @ 8:45 pm

So I’m not even done with editing last year’s oeuvre and my mind already suggests a new project for this year’s NaNoWriMo.

I started planning July-ish last year, and I guess that’s ok. Planning a novel takes a while – it certainly takes longer than writing it when you are determined to write it. But April? That’ a little early. Could be due to the fact that the weather in Germany has skipped spring and gone straight to summer, though.

The new idea is the sequel to the novel I am editing. So maybe it’s not such a surprise that I came up with it now. This idea would answer the question what I’ll do with the sub-plot that needs to be cut entirely. It is much to big for a sub-plot, I could make a few changes and turn it into the sequel’s main plot easily.

April Fools: Day 28

Filed under: April Fools 2007 — sonya @ 8:52 pm

Edited the last 18 pages today.

That is good, sort of. The work on the manuscript is still far from done, though. So far I only indicated the scenes that need sorting out and marked the corrections and deletions in the printed version. Now I have to make these changes in the file and come up with ideas to patch up the rocky parts.

That is not going to happen during the next two weeks, though. I have four crazy days at the office to survive, then I’ll be in New York for 10 days. When I come back, I’m ready for the next round. Or so I hope.

April Fools: Day 27

Got nothing done today. The only predictable thing about my job is that it is completely unpredictable… Must do the remaining pages tomorrow because I’ll be in the office on Sunday.

April Fools: Day 22

Filed under: April Fools 2007 — sonya @ 4:38 pm

Got nothing done today, I decided it is Sunday for once. I expect to be through with the remaining pages by Tuesday, though. That’s when the real work starts, the actual rewrites. I’m scared already.

April Fools: Day 21

Filed under: April Fools 2007, NaNoWriMo — sonya @ 11:14 am

Edited 15 pages. Only 49 pages left now.

I have to remember this for next November: Don’t use longer expressions when you could also use one word to describe something just for the sake of the word count. I know I can write 50k words, there’s no need to pad the word count artificially with phrases I would never use otherwise. That will make editing a bit easier, too.
