It never rains …

Note to self: Trust your gut feeling. I had a bad feeling about this job from the start, and of course they refuse to pay me now. Yeah, I’ve needed that.

Ups and downs

There are moments when it is priceless to be a freelancer. These moments often happen around the time when you have just finished and handed in a project.

Shortly after this precious time, the wait for the payment begins. What goes up …

Yay! A translation job

Filed under: freelancing — sonyca @ 9:00 pm

One that is criminally low-paid, though. But 100 bucks is 100 bucks.

The thing that applies to a novel first draft is true for a translation first draft, too: It is allowed to suck. You have to get the source language out of the way so you can focus on the target language, and in the first draft it doesn’t matter if the sentences sound clumsy.

I just had to remind myself of that.

Three bucks for 1000 words?

Filed under: freelancing — sonyca @ 10:33 pm

I have recently written 900 for 10 euros and felt terrible about it. But 1000 words for 3 US$? I guess Get A Freelancer isn’t for me, then.

What Weekend?

Filed under: freelancing, moi — sonyca @ 9:58 am

I have increased my efforts to find translation jobs again. My last paid translation job was well over a year ago.

So instead of relaxing during the weekend, I’m at my desk all day, hunting jobs, updating my profiles on a number of translation and freelancer websites, trying to write a killer resume (because frankly, my old one sucked).

I hope the sacrificed weekend will pay off soon. I enjoyed the work I’ve done for Script Frenzy so far, but it would be so good to be paid for my work for a change.
