NaNoEdMo and April Fools

For the fourth year running, I will most likely not make the 50 hours of editing which are required for NaNoEdMo.

That is why I have signed up for April Fools this year. For this challenge, you can set your own goal. Mine is to finish editing my novel and write 10,000 new words for the rewrites. I think I will easily produce 15k for the rewrites, but I will be working full-time for three weeks in April and I want to make sure that I make my word count. Getting through the editing process is more important than quantity this time, too.

Novel Progress Report

Well, there’s no progress to report, actually. Between the office and falling in love there’s not much time left for writing.

He is going home over Christmas, though, and I might spent my free time writing. After all I’m still serious about finishing the novel this year.

This is the time of year when the weekends are even more exhausting as the weekdays.

Therefore, not much novel progress to report.

Novel Progress

Have written 1602 words since December 1.
There are a lot of other things in my life that need my attention. It was ok to neglect some of them for one month, but I can’t possible leave them unattended for a second month in a row
I’m juggling writing, working, house work and social life again.

Quote for December 4, 2006

It’s as hard to get from almost finished to finished as to get from beginning to almost done.

True. I have written 793 words so far. Not much, but I don’t want to write words just so I have written more words. This month, the word count is not so important, but completing the first draft is.

On Saturday, I got Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones from the library. It always works wonders for me in terms of motivation and inspiration. I’m going to read a couple of pages now, then write for an hour or two before I have to go to work.

Finishing may be difficult, but I got from beginning to almost done already. I’ve done half the work, and I’ll do the other half no matter how hard it will be.

Finally uploaded my novel. The NaNoWriMo word counters are more generous than RoughDraft. According to them, I have over 4,500 words more than I actually have (yes, that’s right, I’ve relied on RD for my word count all month and I’m going  to stick with what it says about the number of words written).

Fact is, though, that I still need to finish my novel. I’m not sure about NaNoFiMo because  it is in their rules that you have to write 30,000 words in December. I don’t know if I really need that many words to finish the story, and I don’t want to produce words just to make the required word count.  It is very clear to me what I still need to write, and I don’t intend to add superfluous scenes - I’ve produced enough of them this month.

Whether I join NaNoFiMo or not, I am determined to finish the first draft before Christmas.

If I finish the story tomorrow, it will be nothing short of a miracle. But I believe in miracles.

Went to the cinema earlier today. Casino Royal - loved it. Not so good for the ambitious finish novel this month plan, though.

So much for 60,000 words today. But I’m not admitting defeat yet, there are still three days in November and I can still finish this bloody novel this month.
